So it’s with this in mind that I share with you my biggest change: To accept change and embrace it.  I admit I don’t look forward to change but I am accepting it with more of an open heart and more importantly open mind.  I share this because as an older worker you are bombarded with change specifically in the current job market. Over the last 5 years the recruitment process has taken a 360 degree turn that has probably left your head spinning and unsure how to obtain a job.

5 years ago if you wanted to work at Target you visited a local store and asked for an application, completed the application and waited for an interview. Now, the process can be completed from your very own home or at a computer terminal in a store. HOWEVER the process is far from simple in order to ensure that you shine the light of opportunity on you make sure that you complete the online interview in complete and follow the instructions to a T. Never and I repeat NEVER leave blank spaces, fill out complete past employment history. AND I hope you are paying close attention:  this is important: don’t limit yourself by placing boundaries on the shift you are looking to be hired for, hiring managers what people flexibility!

As always I have positive news to report: According to Help Wanted Online 2009 hiring ended on a positive note, rising 255,000 in December. More importantly the number of employers who placed now “hiring ads” online also rose. This is GREAT news indicating that yes folks there are companies that are hiring.

Indeed the small everyday achievements that I call memorable.  They are what the ordinary person wouldn’t take a second look at but they are mine and they make me smile. 

These instances are the small stuff; when I surprised my family with a trip home they weren’t expecting. It’s the look on a friends face when they get a card from me when they least expect.  It’s the feeling I get when I greet a complete stranger with “Hi” and they look like I made their day.

These everyday small “things” are my proof that I have made a difference. So next time you get an opportunity to drop in on someone’s world and make an imprint take that opportunity.  You never know your imprint might be the biggest impact some people ever see. We live in a world that easily allows us to pass by and not take a moment to breathe and enjoy each other.

Take the smallest treasures and remember them.

Remember to get to the point when developing your achievements and ask yourself what of our skills and ambitions will benefit any future position that you might hold and list those achievements.  Don’t get bogged down with your past job descriptions because those rarely have any spark and you need SPARK to catch the recruiting managers attention.   

Make your objective statement that’s meaningful to you it’s easy to pluck a dressed up paragraph that means very little to anyone but looks great on a resume. Create a statement that catches the reader’s attention and accurately describes you and what you can do for a company. Make an impression and make it loud and it will stick.

There is something to be said short and sweet; when you send your resume to a hiring manager make sure that it’s concise.  The message on who you are, what you have done, what your skills are and how you can benefit a company should be conveyed in one page.  No longer than one page is usually too much information.

It’s easy to over inform and offer too much information and often what happens is that information isn’t what you want to convey. It’s hard enough to find a job don’t create obstacles with your resume.
